SATO

The All Female Crew of Biospaceship Tellus

Transterra Biotechnologist Hydrazine Steiner

This is Biotechnologist Hydrazine Steiners Biolab, a cluster of customizable pods that can be chemically programmed to provide different tools or environments for her research. For example in the left hand pod a microfluid sack has grown to help Steiner process and identify chemicals. Once she is finished with an experiment the pod closes itself off, then acid dissolves and recycles the contents ready for new use.

At the top you can see a Biobubble, a chamber that is open to the outside atmosphere of Sato, Satonian lifeforms can enter and exit the bubble to be observed without being disturbed or separated for extended periods. Steiner can take small samples for closer inspection before returning them to their own environment.

Transterra Biospaceship Whisperer Lexicon Hildreth

Here we see Lexicon Hildreth at one of the monthly thanksgiving festivals that happen onboard the living Biospaceship Tellus. This is an informal time for Lexicon to relax and check in with other members of the crew. As she spends most of her time in non-verbal communication with Tellus this is an important opportunity for other crew members to find out how she and the ship is feeling, and express any messages to her. Lexicon likes to personally hand out the produce from her gardens at these meetings, it allows her and others to focus on the bountiful gifts of Tellus, also it’s the perfect time to share gossip and voice any concerns or worries.

Transterra Culturist Seismic Singer

Transterra Singer floats around in her zero-g anechoic chamber aboard the Biospaceship Tellus. The rounded walls of the chamber absorb all external vibrations allowing her to focus entirely on her custom grown osmotic sound membrane which floats above her. The sound membrane is a non attached sensory organ that filtrates all sound around it and through osmotic pressure gathers one of every sound in a 3 mile radius. It then feeds this sound directly into Singers body at which point it is like experiencing a new colour for the first time. It is her job to decode it all and relay what she hears to the crew.

Transterra Ambassador Charra-Ti

Seen here with the REVOC361 grown into the chest cavity, it is a volatile organic compound mixer allowing her to exchange by releasing and receiving compounds to communicate with various residents of SATO. This partly external organ features a permeable membrane through which chemical and electrical signals are sent and received. It has grown into their chest cavities as their lungs have been transformed to gills and moved elsewhere.

Transterra Ambassador Frione Sewell

Transterra Ambassadors Osbourne and Sewell underwent Enviroforming, a process of genetic Mimesis where their bodies were temporarily altered to allow for direct physical exploration of the planet Satos atmosphere.

Mission Day 1

Transterra Ambassador Frione Sewell Log

I know I must write, but I’m having difficulty finding the words to express my feelings at this time. After so many years of preparation we have finally set off to explore the as yet unvisited planet of Sato. Photographed by a non-sentient Probe Robot 65 years ago, Sato has been my guiding star for as long as I can remember. To think that soon we will explore the mysterious forms and canyons, the enigmatic shapes I have studied for so long... it leaves me breathless.

The Biospaceship on which we live and travel is named Tellus, she nurtures 6404 plants, 123 humans, 40 animals, and countless microbes. Tellus is an exquisite soul, she welcomed us wonderfully with figs (my favourite, someone must have told her) and other fruits grown in her arboriums, and I look forward to getting to know her properly in the coming years. Our command crew for this mission is formed of the two Ambassadors, myself and Charra-Ti Osbourne, Transterra Biotechnologist Hydrazine Steiner, Transterra Culturist Seismic Singer and Biospaceship Whisperer Lexicon Hildreth. Together we will travel to Sato, Enviroform ourselves to the planet and then return to Earth to share our experience.

Whilst waiting has been somewhat difficult, it was a wonderful year for myself and Charlotte as we focused on connecting fully with Earth. The leaving gratitude ceremony was extremely moving, it was the closest I have come to feeling the heartbeat of that base energy from which we emanate. I have always known I wanted to be an Ambassador, so compared to many I have had my eyes on the stars for most of my life, so I particularly felt the need and benefit of the ceremonial actions to ground myself before flying away. I was able to connect with the knowledge that exciting as space travel has always been to me, it is only possible to do from a healthy planet, and I must never forget that, as I sometimes have!

Biospaceship Tellus

In 3021 technology is primarily grown, not built. This entirely changes our perception of the tools we use and spaces we build. They are better thought of as live organisms which must be nurtured and treated with respect. Tellus is a living being in which humans can work, play, grow food and travel the galaxy. Biospace ships are always paired with a Whisperer, a human whose primary function is to stay in contact with the living mind, communicating and caring for her needs.
